124 Pounds Loss
At 349 pounds, I was beginning to have
health problems. My back hurt all the time. I was having
heart palpitations while on my job as a welder. Also I was
dependent upon a C-PAP machine to keep me breathing while I
slept because my weight caused a blockage in my air
passages. Even worse than that, I had become almost
completely sedentary. My children would ask to go for a bike
ride or to the park, and my answer was always "Later", or "
Not now" .
I joined TOPS in October 2009. My wife
and I knew we needed to change our lifestyle for ourselves
and for our children. I began to study nutrition and began a
high-fiber, low-fat and low-sugar diet of my own design. It
worked, I dropped the first fifty pounds pretty easily. My
chapter would
sing the "Biggest Loser" song to me, week after week. I was
so excited when someone was the Biggest Loser and not me. My
fellow members encouraged and challenged me each week. The
weight loss slowed down and it was then that
the support I received in my chapter really began to help
me. They were always there to root for me and encourage me.
On September 30, 2010 I made my KOPS goal with a 124 pound
weight loss. I don't know who was more excited, me or my
leader, Char! Thank you IL 403, Moline, for your prayers,
kind and encouraging words and continued support as I
maintain my KOPS status. I know with the support of my
chapter, my wife and children and especially the Lord, I
will never see 349 pounds again!

108 pounds loss
I can't believe I am writing this
success story. I am so overwhelmed, honored and humbled to
be 2010 Area Queen and a KOPS with a loss of 108 pounds.
My new life began on July 6, 2006 when I rejoined TOPS.
I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol and had a
mini-stroke in 2000, plus I was in need of total knee
replacement in both knees. I have tried every diet on
the planet. Just like a yo-yo, I would lose and regain
the same 100 pounds over and over again. Being
embarrassed to join TOPS by myself, I asked my best friend
to join with me for encouragement. We both joined on
July 6, 2006. Losing weight wasn't easy, I had to
learn to set some goals.
I faced many obstacles on the way.
On June 14, 2009, I had total knee replacement on my left
knee and missed three months of TOPS meetings and went back
with a 24 pound gain. I was embarrassed and horrified.
I was more determined to lose weight and get control of my
life. The weight started coming off again. Then on
June 7, 2010, I had a total replacement of my right knee.
This time I learned a lesson. I went back to TOPS in
one month with only a 10 pound gain. Now my next goal
was to be KOPS in 2010.
On August 12, 2010, I took my size 30/32 pants and when the
weight recorder called my name for our weekly results, I
stood up and put my large pants in front of me and announced
I reached my goal of losing 108 pounds. This was my
proudest day!! I never wanted to state that I was on a
diet, for I know a diet is something you will give up after
a couple of weeks. It was a TOPS lifestyle that was
reasonable for me and something I am able to stick with - -
for I have all the support of my friends and with my TOPS
family. My next goal is to maintain my new lifestyle
and to help my best friend to achieve her goal to become a
KOPS because she was always there to support me when we
joined TOPS together.
Thank you TOPS IL 1793, Naperville.
TOPS is my lifelong journey to good healthy living. My
motto to everyone is "NEVER GIVE UP". |
